In the production of wire rod of fire refining copper in a small and medium regional producers minimization of the size of the technological line continuous casting - rolling processis most often achieved by reducing the number of structural components in the implemented system technologies, including by reducing the number of rolling stands in the mill line. The influence of minimizing the number of rolling stand in the conditions of the line continuous casting - rolling process company «Southwire» with a 9-mills rolling mill on the manufacturability of the production process and product qual- ity was evaluated. In particular, we show that to achieve a stable rolling process and the required quality of the wire rod became possible after decreasing the area of the original continuous cast ingot in the form of a trapezoid by 6.71% and the increase in the area of work piece in all stands of the mill to prevent overflow of pass (defect «fin») and, as a conse- quence, obtaining a finished product with the transformed defect «lap». It was found, that the most problematic, from the point of view of the occurrence of the defect «fin», should be considered the section of transition from the rough to the finishing group of mills, namely the 3v mill (round pass). The practical implementation of the entire set of technologi- cal adjustments made it possible to stabilize the rolling process, as well as to obtain a copper wire rod diam. 8 mm of the correct geometric shape, the required quality of the metal macrostructure and the absence of defect «lap» in the rolling production.
