The author analyses opportunities and limits in the use of location based data in the research of citizens’ daily mobility. The article provides theoretical and methodological base for the use of such data, as well as the comparison with the data received during mapping and mental mapping. The results of a certain empirical research carried out on the basis of clustering algorithm described in the work by J. Crenshaw, J. Hong, N. Saday are analysed. The author makes the conclusion that despite significant potential of location based data, the use of it in the research of daily mobility is not always justified nowadays.
