The authors of the article represent the concept of “ekologiya” (ecology) in the existential fiction narrative. The material under analysis includes such works by Miyazaki Hayao as “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” , “Princess Mononoke”, “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Gone with the Ghosts”. The paper focuses on the verbal and visual aspects of the concept. The study employs the method of conceptual and lexical analysis. The result of this study is a description of the verbal and visual aspects of the concept of “ekologiya”. The visual constituent is presented in the form of a core - periphery structure and is described using similar specific features presented in anime movies. So the core of the concept encompasses the relationships between man and nature and the influence of interpersonal or intergroup relations on the environment, analyzed on the basis of the works of the studio “Ghibli”; the article also provides examples of mythological creatures inhabiting the worlds of Miyazaki Hayao. The periphery of the concept includes the life experience of the director and the historical experience of the country; and, in addition, the images of the key characters that directly affect the storyline of the works. The verbalization of the concept is based on a set of lexical units associated with the concept of “ekologiya” and demonstrated in animated movies directly or indirectly.
