Optimization of the design and operating parameters of the shaft and blast furnaces is the important approach to improve the furnace performance. The developed mathematical model includes the equation of continuity, momentum, heat and mass exchange and state for material and gas flow. The simplified numerical or analytical solutions are used to determine optimal furnace parameters. The experimental methods were developed to measure the local parameters of the material and gas flow. New methods of heat cycle control were also suggested and implemented. The implementation of the optimal design and operating parameters for blast furnaces, D RI/HBI, lime shaft furnaces and cupolas provided decrease in fuel consumption and gaseous emissions and increase in furnaces productivity and product quality.
