Possible ways of making the gas velocity distribution more uniform in a motionless particulate bed are considered experimentally. The vertical flow inhomogeneity can be reduced by inserting solid bodies or vertical partitions into the bed. The most pronounced effect in homogenization is obtained using porous or perforated partitions which present no serious obstacle to gas exchange between adjacent sections of the bed.
