The power losses and energy consumption in oil-well pumps are discussed on the basis of a complete model of the electromechanical system. The energy characteristics are compared for two different pump designs. With practically the same unit energy expenditure, these designs differ in power losses in the motor. An objective method of monitoring the pump equilibrium is proposed.
