The peculiarities of carbon content effect on the acoustic properties of music wire with diameter 1.05 mm and estimation of the correlation dependence between some physical and mechanical properties and the quality of wire sounding were tested. Steels with 0.51-0.92%C were austenitized at 930-940°C, isothermally held at 460-480°C in a salt bath and cold drawn (ε=94%). Residual stresses, density P and electric conductivity γ were determined. The sounding was estimated by an integral acoustic index Y. There is an extremal type dependence of mechanical properties (σ0.01, σ0.01/σb), physical properties (P, γ) and acoustic index from carbon content. The greatest correlation was established between σ0.01, σ0.01/σb and γ. After a special heat treatment-tempering at 350-400°C, 1-2 sec at simultaneous elongation (ε=2%) the acoustic index Y increases on 15-22%.
