A mathematical model of the thermal performance of steel pouring ladles has been built in which the non-steady nature of heating of the ladle lining, heat exchange in the space above the steel, and other factors are taken into account. The procedure developed enables the problem of optimising the ladle design and lining to be solved, and the best drying, heating, and operating regimes to be selected.
