The design, structure, operating principle, and applications of an integrated multifunctional brushless exciter are described; the exciter employs nontraditional magnetic, electric, and structural methods to permit mutual inductance between the windings of the individual machines. These methods yield new properties of the device, reduce the consumption of active materials, and reduce production costs of the generator, exciter, and control module by 7-11%. An exciter sample is investigated experimentally. © 2006 by Allerton Press, Inc.
