Designing and upgrading automated checkpoint sys-tems (ACS) is a complex process. Engineers involved in this pro-cess base their decisions on a number of macroscopic indicators that have physical meaning. Also, such indicators are relevant for those who make decisions about the purchase of appropriate security equipment, and employees of mass event services and city traffic management services. This article proposes a classification of problems and issues arising at the stages of development and upgrade of automated control systems. In this example, cases of using macroscopic indicators for solving typical problems used in practice are considered. A multi-channel non-stationary queueing system (NQS) is proposed as a model of ACS based on previous studies and analysis of statistical information collected at the stadiums of the Russian Federation. An example of the analysis of the problem of studying the number of necessary turnstiles from the point of view of the optimality of macroscopic characteristics is given.
