The article presents variants of the semantic field structure of the concept SURPRISE in modern English. The semantic field structure is formed by the keywords identified in the explanatory and synonymic dictionaries. The study focuses on the analysis of the synonyms of the basic lexeme that identifies the components of the concept semantic field taking various criteria into account, i.e. the semantic meaning of the word and the number of times the meaning appears in the dictionary. Thus, this article allows us to better understand the semantic field of the concept SURPRISE in modern English and use it in translation, learning the language and communicating in English.
