The article is focused on the description of the Case-study method applying in the process of linguistics and translation students’ professional training. The development of a professional training of linguistics and translation students a professionally oriented foreign language based on modern interactive methods is an urgent task of foreign language teaching at university, which is conditioned by the society’s need for linguists with well-developed foreign language and subject skills and abilities foe professional activities. The specified task determines the purpose of the study that is develop and test a methodology for teaching a professionally oriented foreign language based on the interactive method. The article provides an analysis of pedagogical concepts that are relevant for teaching linguistics students a professionally oriented foreign language on socio-political sphere: an activity-oriented approach and Case-study method, essential characteristics of the concepts such as “professional-oriented foreign language” and “linguistics and translation students’ professional activity” are given. The integrative nature of the Case-study method is revealed, including elements of other integrative methods. Among the interactive methods the following are distinguished: Content-based instruction, Problem-based instruction, Content and Language Integrated Learning, Role play. The article emphasizes teachers’ role changing during the work on cases. The teacher acts as a moderator and consultant, and students actively participate in the discussion on a given problem, offer and share the ideas about possible solution of the case. The professional skills and abilities that are formed and developed on the basis of the Case-study method are described. They are analytical skills, decision-making, time planning and interpersonal communication. The experience of implementation of the methodology for teaching professionally oriented English in the socio-political sphere based on this method and containing an algorithm of students work on cases, a scale for evaluating learning outcomes and analysis of the results is presented. The conclusion about the effectiveness of the Case-study implementation in the process of teaching professionally oriented English to linguistics students in the socio-political sphere is made.
