Kinetics of silver reduction from the solution containing silver nitrate 0,38 moles/l, 5,5-demethylhydontoine (DMH) 1 mole/l and potassium hydroxide 1,5 moles/l were studied. Polarization curves were obtained in a three-electrode cell using Solartron-1280C potentiostat. Equilibrium potential of silver in the solutions with DMH is shifted in the negative direction against its value in silver nitrate solution. It shows that complexes are formed (Fig.1). Kinetic parameters (i0 = 0,9·10-4 А/см2; α = 0,2) were determined from the cathodic polarization curve for the process of silver deposition from this bath. Anodic curve (Fig.3) has a maximum showing possible passivation of silver anodes in this solution. Stability of silver complex with DMH was determined both potentiometrically (KH = 2,6·10-9) and from the cathodic and anodic polarization curves (KH = 3,5·10-9 ). Both values coincide and are much higher than that for the cyanide complex (KH = 1,4·10-20 ). Adhesion tests showed that silver preplating for 30 s from diluted solution (AgNO3 0,5 g/l, DMH 70 g/l, K2SO4 35 g/l и KOH; pH 10 at 0,2.0,9 A/dm2) improves the adhesion. Dull coatings of good quality were obtained at 0,45.0,50 A/dm2 from the bath: AgNO3 64, DMH 130, KCl 30, KOH 60.75 (pH 12).
