The article examines visual and anthropological materials of the late 19th - early 20th century that were devoted to the research expeditions in Kamchatka and Sakhalin of professional ethnographers and photographers/filmmakers. The authors rediscover the unique visual documents (drawings, photographs, films) from the Far Eastern archives regarding the works of Elizaveta Orlova, Alexander Litvinov, Prokopii Novograblenov, Benedict Dybowsky, Innokentii Pavlovsky, Ivan Krasnov, Petr Polevoy, Bronislav Pilsudski.
