Basing ourselves on the historical accounts of Cesare Federici and Nicolo Conti, we try to reconstruct the reasons of the fall of the Indian empire of Vijnayagar in the sixties of the 16th century. For both our Venetian authors this event served as an illustration of two general ideas: about the frailty of mundane wealth and lack of perspective in any struggle between the “heathens” (i.e., the Buddists) and the Muslims. Our European-centered authors failed to see any more concrete details in the Indian events.
