The article deals with the issue of improving the quality and efficiency of separate harvesting of grain crops. The analysis and evaluation of the shortcomings of various aspects of this process, in particular, the quality of the formed rolls from the mown mass, the loading of combine harvesters during the combine of the rolls from the mown mass and the negative results of the impact of harvesting machines on agricultural landscapes, are carried out. It was found that the loading of combines needs to be optimized, the quality of the formed rolls from mown stems depends on a large number of factors and features of the technological processes of serial machines that have their drawbacks, and the impact of machines on the soil needs to be minimized, especially in dry-steppe and similar agricultural landscapes. As a solution to the identified problems, the article suggests the use of batch technology for harvesting grain, reveals the essence of this technology and presents the results of its application. As studies have shown, the use of the presented technology allows you to increase the productivity of combine harvesters on selection by 1.5-2.0 times, reduce fuel consumption by 1.5-2.5 times, grain losses by 1.3-1.6 times, and the reduced costs by up to 25%. The batch harvester can be used most effectively in the eastern, central and southern regions of the Orenburg Region, Stavropol Territory, Rostov, Saratov, Volgograd, Samara regions of Russia, as well as the northern regions of Kazakhstan. Approximately these areas amount to 5.0-5.5 million. ha in Russia and about 6.0-8.0 million ha in Kazakhstan.
