The author examines the conceptualizations of the notion of “sovereignty” in the written statements of the US and Argentina at the UN International Court of Justice on the question of the accordance of the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo with the international law. The analysis relies on the methodology proposed by Michael Freeden for the study of political ideology. The viability of this methodology for the linguistic study of ideological texts and for the study of conceptualizations of political notions is demonstrated.
