Background During the provision of surgical dental care, doctors frequently focus on the clinical examination of patients, not paying due attention to their psychological characteristics. Providing surgical care, most dentists demonstrate an over-specialized approach, disregarding the importance of creating a rapport with the patient. Relevance The problems of diagnosis and relief of emotional reactions, which arise in patients during dental visits and are manifested in emotional stress, anxiety and fear, are insufficiently studied. The need for such a study is also dictated by the clinical needs of dental surgeons. objectives The aim of the work was to study the psychological readiness of dental surgeons and their patients for complex surgical interventions in outpatient settings. Methods In order to investigate the psychophysiological functions performed by medical personnel, as well as the psychophysiological state of patients before dental interventions, the methods of observation, introspection and questionnaire were applied. Results Timely psychotherapeutic work with dental surgeons and patients, as well as the use of modern local anesthetics, high-tech surgical instruments and equipment allows extensive operations on soft and hard tissues of the upper and lower jaw to be performed in outpatient conditions. Conclusions When performing complex surgical interventions in outpatient settings, it is necessary to consider not only the level of dentists' professional and psychological readiness, but also patients' psychophysiological readiness for dental interventions. Psychological readiness depends both on objective (motivational, intellectual-operational and psychophysiological state) and subjective factors (the ability for adequate self-esteem and self-regulation).
