The article is devoted to German-Korean Relations prior to 1883. It concludes information in German, Korean and English languages. Despite the wide interest in the topic among non-Russian researchers, this subject still did not get special attention of scholars in Russia. This article attempts to do a more detailed analysis of the interaction between the Choson dynasty and the German Empire in the period before the establishment of official diplomatic relations between two countries and signing the "Treaty on trade, friendship and navigation". The text of this Treaty served as a model for the agreements signed between the state of Choson and other Western powers (Italy, Russia, France, Belgium, Denmark, etc.). The works of German travelers, missionaries, doctors contain useful information about the culture, language, economic development of Choson in the 17th - 19th centuries and its relations with Western powers. The books of Ernst Jakob Oppert, Karl Friedrich A. Gützlaff, Max von Brandt got a special attention as far as those people visited the Chosun by themselves or interacted with the Korean people in the territories of neighboring States (China, Japan). These works were not published in Russian and were not widely known in Russia.
