Experimental data on heat transfer from the open shaft section of the furnace fan Ts9-55 No. 10 were obtained. An analysis of that data led to the conclusion that the efficiency of heat removal from the shaft of the furnace fan to a greater extent depends on the choice of design of the cooling device than on the materials used. The calculations performed during the studies showed that in the case of replacing steel 45 with aluminum or copper for all types of devices, the shaft temperature in the region of the first bearing decreases by only 6 - 8 °C in the entire studied range of rotational speed changes from 200 to 1200 rpm. Thus, in the studied range of fan operation parameters from 200 to 1200 rpm, in the manufacture of cooling devices of all three types, cheaper material steel 45 can be used without any significant decrease in the cooling efficiency of the shaft.
