The article describes the long-standing experience gained at the Ural Federal University (UrFU) with training engineering personnel for research and development of renewable energy sources. Quantitative indicators characterizing the numbers of specialists trained in the period from 1997 to 2021, areas and results of scientific researches carried out at the Department of Nuclear Power Plants and Renewable Energy Sources are presented. Information on the test benches and installations used in the educational process is given. The effectiveness of using experimental research and design work of students in the educational process is shown.
