Problems and prospects of using linear induction machines (LIM) with an inductor capable of creating counter traveling magnetic field are considered. Examples of the using LIM in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) technologies, induction heating devices, electrodynamic separators, and technologies of rolled product processing are presented. The results of testing a laboratory sample of LIM with a counter traveling magnetic fields and features of physical processes occurring in the machines with different winding schemes are analyzed. Recommendations regarding the choice of a winding structure are specified.
