During the transition of enterprises to a green economy, as with any other qualitative changes in the production environment, the employees and their competencies are of great importance. The article is devoted to the definition of the human capital role in greening production. The study examines the impact of human capital on the level of greening of Russian enterprises. According to the results of the correlation and regression analysis, it was revealed that human capital has a direct positive impact on the index of the enterprise greening. This confirms the need for companies to invest in human capital in order to increase the effectiveness of implemented green programs. It is determined that investments in the development of employees' soft skills, such as personal qualities, have the greatest impact on the level of greening. The results of the study are of practical importance, as they can be useful to managers making the transition to a green economy in the process of making managerial decisions and developing investment projects.
