The paper presents the successful experience of the Ural Federal University on introduction of training programs for researchers and teachers in the field of English as an important condition to adapt to the new requirements of professional activities related to the work of international scientific and educational environment. The organizational and methodological challenges faced by participants in the project: the definition of the requirements for the minimum level of English language proficiency required to work in an international environment; choice of method of objective determination of the independent English language proficiency; use of mechanisms of management of motivation to learn English; development of effective training programs to ensure their implementation and monitoring of the quality of education.
