It is studied the aluminothermic reduction of titanium dioxide with obtaining the alloys of Ti - Al, in a resistance furnace and in the electric arc furnace. The alloys of Ti - Al contain 30-80% of Ti. While melting in the corundum and magnesite crucibles, it is shown the change in the TiO2 - CaO - CaF2 - Al charge of the TiO2:Al ratio from 1:1.5 to 1:0.6. This change allows to obtain alloys, which main phases are the thermodynamically stable intermetallic compounds TiAl3, TiAl, Ti2Al. Meanwhile, it is observed the good division of metal and slag phases, and there is reached the degree of the titanium extraction in an alloy of more than 90% and the oxygen and nitrogen content in metal of 0.1-0.3% and less than 0.1%, respectively. Using of aluminum-reducer in the form of grits 0.1-0.3 mm instead of a powder with the size of less than 0.1 mm and the application of preliminary charges tabletting under the pressure of 100-150 atm did not actually affect on the process parameters. In spite of the high titanium content in an alloy and its high extraction into the alloy, the intensive formation of carbide phases is observed, when melting in graphite crucibles. This formation corresponds to Ti3AlC2 and TiC compounds, which has an effect on the melting temperature rise (over 1700 oC) and on a worse metal and slag separation. The obtained results show on the prospects of using the regulated temperature rate by the aluminothermic obtaining of alloys Ti - Al for the industrial application.
