Impact of controlled mixing of metal in an induction crucible furnace on the energy parameters of carburization upon synthetic iron production in a modernized melting unit based on the induction crucible furnace with a 12-ton capacity is estimated. The upgraded unit includes an additional bottom inductor of electromagnetic melt stirring in the crucible. The efficiency of adding the crucible lining of the bottom inductor with magnetic inserts made of composite material based on a heat-resistant compound and magnetically soft powder is assessed. Combined use of bottom inductor-agitator, side heating inductor and magnetic lining can increase the metal flow rate several times (8 - 16), whereby the energy loss upon carbonization can be reduced by more than 2 times.
