The current stage of world development, which is characterized by contradictory processes of internationalization in the global economy as a whole, is described by a change in the direction of international interaction from West to East. The aim of the article is to clarify the vector of internationalization in higher education, including Russia. The article uses the author's index of internationalization of higher education and flow orientation index of educational services to determine new characteristics of the current stage of internationalization of higher education, including the emergence and development of virtual mobility of students and faculty, new international competitiveness programs, increased interaction of universities within network programs, and restructuring of international educational services market on the insurance basis.
