The article is constructed as a verification of the derived by logical means hypothesis about the functional-semantic nature of the processes of degradation and rehabilitation of historical and architectural objects using empirical data on individual rehabilitation projects. The definition of the notion «degradation of a historical and architectural object» is derived, and directions for assessing this state of architectural objects are given. The economic and environmental aspects of the rehabilitation of historical and architectural sites are considered.
