The genesis of the systematic approach in Russian design is shown. The ideas of GP Shchedrovitsky, D. Azrikan, K. Kantor and other representatives of VNIITE are analyzed. Two branches of the systemic approach are identified - a systemic view of the design process (from which the ideas of design thinking evolve today) and the idea of a projected object as a system.
