An approach to the quality estimation of products with the use of complex quality indices is discussed. A calculation of complex quality indices of a hot-rolled union billet for pump-compressor pipes was examined. A comparison of weight-average arithmetic and geometric complex quality indices was carried out. Based on the obtained data the reserves for quality improvements of the union billet for pump-compressor pipes were revealed.
