The results of the renewable energy (RE) development in Russia as of January 1, 2022 are presented along with the outcomes from implementing the CSA-RES-2.0 plan and the activity on state regulation and localization of equipment manufacture. In particular, the installed capacity of RES, including large hydroelectric power plants amounted to 55.35 GW, or 22.4% of the total capacity in the Unified Energy System of the Russian Federation equal to 246.6 GW (100%). The effectiveness of the scientific activities on RE carried out at universities is pointed out, including those conducted at the National Research University Moscow Power Engineering Institute (NRU MPEI), RES Research Laboratory at the Moscow State University (MSU RES RL), Scientific and Education Center for RES at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU RES SEC), Ural Federal University (UFU), South Ural State University (SUSU), as well as institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Joint Institute for High Temperatures (JIHT) and Federal Scientific Agroengineering Center VIM (FSAC VIM). The continuity of the scientific schools on renewable energy at NRU MPEI, MSU RES RL, and SPbPU RES SEC is pointed out, and the specific features of providing financial support for them are mentioned. The results of publishing activities, training of young scientists, specialization, features of experimental equipment, and organization of international cooperation are presented for each scientific school on RE. The role the MSU RES RL plays in performing interdisciplinary research, in publishing a journal on RES problems, and holding schools of young scientists on RE is noted. The following scientists are among the leaders in preparing Candidates of Sciences in renewable energy: Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. S.E. Shcheklein (UFU); Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. V.V. Elistratov and Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. I.M. Kirpichnikova (SUSU). In terms of the number of works published for the past five years, the SUSU is in the first place; the MSU RES RL is the leader in the number of publications per employee.
