Usage of lime obtained through the traditional technology of burning chunks creates certain problems, the most significant being fire hazard and the necessity of slaking lime for 8-24 hours before usage. We are proving that agglomerative burning of aggregates comprised of the mixture of ground limestone and pet-coke makes it possible to obtain cheap and highly active “powder lime”. A batch of powder lime was obtained at a semi-industrial plant; its usage increases alumina extraction from bauxite by 10 %.
