Geopolymers constitute an effective analogue of Portland cement for use in the production of reinforced concrete products. The paper substantiates the economic efficiency of using metallurgical slag-based geopolymers as the main binder for structural elements used in the construction of buildings and structures in regions having mild temperate climates. The most promising applications of geopolymer binders are described and their main disadvantages and advantages indicated. The paper also presents the chemical composition of metallurgical slag from the Ural region, helping determine the suitability of this raw material for the production of geopolymers. A scheme for manufacturing reinforced concrete products made from slag-based geopolymer concrete is proposed that allows geopolymer concrete and geopolymer-based products to be produced at small and medium enterprises. The study determines the compositions of geopolymer concrete, with metallurgical slag indicated as the main component. It is shown that the production of geopolymers and geopolymer-based products helps to solve the problem of environmental pollution by industrial waste and minimises the production of greenhouse gases due to the absence of high-temperature processes.
