An educational study of the behavior of a steel ball located at the end of a vertical ferrite rod carrying out magnetostrictive vibrations under the influence of a high-frequency field of the coil has been implemented. At the same time, it is possible to observe random bounces of the ball to heights up to tens of centimeters. These observations introduce students to the physics of the impact of the ball on the rod and the phenomenon of magnetostriction.
